On 1 May 2005, in all 25 member states of the European Union, the information network EUROPE DIRECT began its activities.
It is a project of the Directorate- General Press and Communication of the European Commission during the period 1 May 2005 - 31 December 2008; its partner in the Czech Republic is the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On the basis of a grant administration, beginning on 28 February 2005, 7 EUROPE DIRECT centres were established in Brno, České Budějovice, Hradec Králové, Liberec, Olomouc, Pardubice and Tábor.
The information centres of EUROPE DIRECT are co-financed by funds from the European Commission and can annually spend a maximum of 107,545 EUR within the Czech Republic. Their aim is to provide information on legislation, politics, programmes, projects and possibilities of financing in the Czech Republic and the EU to the widest public possible.
The Regional European Information Centre in the Olomouc Region on 1 May 2005 was renamed EUROPE DIRECT - European Information Centre. This centre will represent itself via the logo Europe Direct.
An addition to the activity of this centre, in active operation since Autumn 2001, will be similar to that of previous years. For citizens the centre is in the areas of the Information Centre in the arcade of the Olomouc Town Hall. The Olomouc Town Council on 3 May 2005 ratified providing the following information services regarding the European Union. The aim of the activities will be to further provide information throughout the Olomouc Region, which we will establish in close co-operation with the Olomouc Region and the already operating City European Information Centre in the Region(11).
