Olomoucí vede další část mezinárodní cyklotrasy
Po další části mezinárodní cyklotrasy, která protíná Olomouc, se mohou pohodlně projet cyklisté. V městské části Povel vyrostla zbrusu nová část Moravské cyklotrasy. Páteřní cyklostezka je tak na území města Olomouce téměř hotová. Jejím patronem se stal mistr světa a ČR ve Freestyle BMX Jan Jílek.
Stavební stroje se na Povelu nezastavily po dobu téměř tří měsíců. Výsledkem je bezmála jeden a půl kilometru dlouhý úsek nové cyklostezky. Komfortní trasa cyklisty vede ulicemi Schweitzerovou a Slavonínskou. „Na začátku prázdninových měsíců mají cyklisté v Olomouci k dispozici nový úsek cyklostezky, která jim umožní bezpečněji projet další částí města na kole. Dobudovaná část Moravské cyklotrasy měří 1 340 metrů a společně s již vybudovanou stezkou v této lokalitě města vytvořila úsek o celkové délce 1 827 metrů,“ vyzdvihl primátor Martin Major.
Nový úsek cyklostezky začíná u křižovatky ulic Velkomoravská a Schweitzerova. Nejprve po pravé a následně po levé straně Schweitzerovy ulice směřuje ke křižovatce se Slavonínskou. Na opačnou stranu Slavonínské ulice cyklisty bezpečně převede pomocí dělícího ostrůvku a pokračuje jako společná stezka pro chodce a cyklisty až k ulici Požárníků. V rámci stavby firma upravila a předláždila také dvě autobusové zastávky. „Nový úsek včetně veškerých souvisejících úprav přijde na zhruba 6,5 milionů korun. Většinu nákladů, stejně jako u dalších podobných investic, pokryje dotace z Regionálního operačního programu Střední Morava, dosáhne výše 85 procent způsobilých výdajů,“ doplnil primátor Martin Major.
Dobudování cyklostezky nadregionálního významu je pro Olomouc klíčové. Kromě úseku Nemilany – Kožušany je tak na území města téměř hotová. Dálková cyklotrasa zvaná Moravská nabývá na významu také proto, že se v Olomouci střetává s další mezinárodní trasou – Jantarovou stezkou. "Křížení dvou nadregionálních stezek v Olomouci je skutečným unikátem,“ uvedl náměstek primátora pro dopravu Ivo Vlach s tím, že město na něj poutá dvěma odpočívkami v místech křížení Jantarové stezky a Moravské cyklotrasy. První zastávka, která na jedinečnost cyklisty upozorňuje, je ve Smetanových sadech. Druhou odpočívku plánuje město vybudovat v Nemilanech.
Moravská cyklotrasa vstupuje do Olomouce od Křelova, městem vede místy po stávajících, místy po nově budovaných úsecích a na jihu opouští Olomouc pod estakádou dálničního obchvatu ve směru na katastr obce Kožušany. Smlouvu o společném vybudování Moravské cyklotrasy na území tzv. malého okresu Olomouc /ORP/ podepsalo v říjnu roku 2008 celkem 10 obcí ležících podél toku řeky Moravy.
Za poslední čtyři roky se v Olomouci podařilo vybudovat celkem 15 kilometrů cyklistických tras.
